Corporation tax to pay
At this level of profit, the company may count as large and have to pay in four instalments, starting during the period itself. That depends on its profit last year, so talk to us before you rely on these dates.
Rates for 1 April 2027 onwards are taken to be the same as now. If they change, the tax for this period will too.
This assumes your company is not linked to any other company. If you own or control other companies, the 19% and 25% limits are shared between them and the tax can be higher.
How this is worked out. Corporation tax is 19% if profits are £50,000 or less and 25% if they are £250,000 or more. In between, the company pays 25% less marginal relief, so each extra pound in that band is taxed at about 26.5%. For accounts shorter than 12 months, both limits are cut in proportion. Accounts longer than 12 months are taxed as two periods, the first 12 months and the rest, with the profit split by days.
What it leaves out. It starts from taxable profit, so work out expenses, capital allowances and losses first. It assumes one company on its own, with no dividends received from other companies, and does not cover companies not resident in the UK, close investment-holding companies or oil and gas profits. Treat it as a guide, not advice, and talk to us before you rely on it.
